“I’ve been working with David for the past 15 years and have probably been involved in upwards of $70 million of leases with him. I coordinate all the leases we have for power equipment, RF devices, and other equipment we use for our distribution operations. We do a lease vs. purchase analysis, and I get bids from different leasing companies. David has had the majority of our business over the past 15 years. He consistently provides us with very competitive rates, but more important than that, he has been a great business partner. He’s been flexible and works with us on both setting up leases on the front end and on the back end when you terminate the lease and decide whether you are going to buy the equipment or return it. He’s very good at funding the leases, as he has multiple sources to draw upon. If we are doing a power equipment lease, he will probably go to a different source than an RF equipment lease. He has the right contacts and consistently gets us very competitive rates. He responds very quickly when we have a request and can generally get back to me with a rate in a few hours. He can turn transaction paperwork around very quickly.
One thing about David is that he works with us as a partner. He alerts us when we are approaching the end of a lease so that we don’t miss a notification date. When we have any issues during the term of the lease or at the end when it comes time to return the equipment, if there are any points of disagreement between us and the ultimate funding source, he helps us resolve them. He looks at the issue from both our side as well as from the funding source side and tries to come up with a workable solution for everyone.
Another thing I like about David is that he doesn’t try to squeeze every dollar out of us. If there is a grey area, he’s been fair with us. David’s been accessible, open, flexible, candid, and honest. He’s a straight shooter who tells it like it is. In this type of business, that’s very important. We’ve had some bad experiences with other leasing companies that squeeze every dollar out of you and hold you to the letter of the law of what’s in the lease. David follows the lease but if there is a grey area, he has the flexibility to recognize that and work with us.
His knowledge about the leasing business is a real asset. I’ve learned a lot from him over the past 15 years. He’s also been very accommodating with others in our company, explaining the nuances of the leasing business to them whether they do business with him or not. In the early 1990’s, we began looking at leasing rather than buying things like television production equipment, office furniture, computers, and storage systems. His staff is also first rate, and they stay on top of the details. Many of our deals have a lot of paper flow, and a bigger company probably wouldn’t give us the same level of personal support.
David is a very down-to-earth kind of guy who is there to work with you, not stick it to you. He’s got a quick wit, is very creative, and is an enjoyable guy to work with. He’s truly a business partner, one who listens well. If he can’t do a deal, he will tell us. I’ve never felt that he was just out to make a buck on us.
